digital_generation_trends.jpg

Don't think you have to do six things at once -- texting, downloading, uploading, watching TV, or playing around on the Face (book) to get what the experts have termed in recent books as -- "grown up digital."

Or the magic question everyone is trying to figure out -- "how to someday work the web into a job?"

True-that -- if you understand these Net Gen-ers coming up (and their habits) -- you'll get the future. So here's what you need to know to stay updated -- it's about working the passion card into everything you do.

Net Gen-ers -- "regard work projects as opportunities for spontaneity and fun," suggests Business week -- (upon studying their habits).

"These kids' brains are actually wired differently," author Tapscott says on those raised on the web.

"This is the smartest generation ever. They are highly motivated and bring with them a new kind of culture. They bring a new model of work and collaboration into the workforce that is better, results in higher performance and better innovation."

Facts:

  1. they crave the speed of instant messaging and avoid
    "traditional business procedures"
  2. they seem to avoid
"a perceived absence of collaboration to office bans on Facebook participation" -- focusing on more on social fun as part of work.

But, the key word here is - Passion

In CBS's youtube story on those folks making -- "over six figures a year."

The one example listed -- "What the Buck," a play on his last name, is the product of a $2,000 camera, a pair of work-lights and a $6 backdrop. The show averages 200,000 hits an episode. It's basically playing into what he enjoys doing and turning it into a way to make money (I'm guessing you might also need a little bit of talent to back that up though).

How ADs works on youtube: "For every one thousand hits, advertisers pay $15 to $20. It's a fraction the cost of television commercials, and they reach a more targeted audience."
