'Like what Charlie Kaufman says in his recent Q&A; 'talking up his 'Synecdoche, New York' flick (starring Philip Seymour Hoffman).
The uber-screenwriter -- ('turned 1st time director) was asked about his goals in writing that film:
'Originally, Spike Jonze and I were approached to do a horror movie, and we wanted to deal with things that were scary in the real world, as opposed to horror-movie conventions: aging, isolation and regret, and illness and mortality.'
'So [the movie] sort of became about a person's life and his relationships. I wanted to do it honestly, and I wanted it to be truthful,' adds Kaufman.
'That got me wondering about the actual pitch session...
'could almost imagine the room as if you-could hear-a-pin-drop-post-pitching: 'for a -- 'forget all about a freddy krueger monster...
'no monsters' -- type of horror movie...
'instead we'll just show real life horrors like just getting old, being alone and getting really sick...
'now, that ranks up high on my personal major-balls-scale -- ('reason alone to see that movie):
